Welcome Judge Reyna(4/27/11)
As we reported here, former district judge Kathleen O’Malley was elevated to the United States Court of Appeal for the Federal Circuit earlier this year. Steinfl (&) Bruno now congratulates Judge Jimmie V. Reyna upon his accession to the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the court that hears appeals from most patent cases. On April 7, 2011, Chief Judge Randall Rader administered the oath of office to Judge Reyna after the Senate confirmed Judge Reyna’s nomination to the court on April 4, 2011.
Judge Reyna is the first Hispanic American to serve on the Federal Circuit. He was born in New Mexico and worked as a trial attorney in Albuquerque before moving to Washington, D.C. where he began practicing international trade law. He was a partner at the firm of Williams Mullen when President Obama nominated him to be a judge on the Federal Circuit, where he led that firm’s international trade and customs group. He has published two books on international trade and has served as the U.S. panelist for antidumping and countervailing duty disputes arising under Chapter 19 of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
Judge Reyna’s background should be of service to the court. The court hears appeals from both the United States International Trade Commission and the United States Court of International Trade.
Judge Reyna has a long history of service with bar associations such as the American Bar Association and the Hispanic National Bar Association, as well as service organizations such as Community Services for Autistic Adults and Children in Maryland.
