Responsibilities will include:

 

• drafting patent prosecution documents including patent applications, amendments, and analyzing and responding to USPTO Office Actions as well as various additional patent prosecution documents as may be required to move a patent application to issue.
• performing patent searches and documenting the results of the searches.
• participating in interviews with patent examiners.
• corresponding and meeting with inventors/applicants.
• researching and determining patentability and technical aspects of inventions.
• timekeeping for billing and working with support staff.

 

A Masters degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, or a related field is required. Admission before the USPTO is required.   Must be eligible to work in the US (no Visa sponsorship available).

IP Docketing Specialist

Candidate would be responsible for providing Intellectual Property (IP) docket and case management support to the firm and overseeing the workflow of the department including Docketing Clerk and Docket Specialist.

IP Docketing Specialist

Candidate would be responsible for providing Intellectual Property (IP) docket and case management support to the firm and overseeing the workflow of the department including Docketing Clerk and Docket Specialist. Position has potential to include supervisory duties depending on prior related experience.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

• Entering and maintaining information in the IP docket and case management software database (CPI software), calculates action due dates, and makes appropriate entries.
• Performing on-line research via public access websites, PAIR system, USPTO, and Foreign PTO.
• Reviewing and responding to e-mail directed to the IP Docket mailbox. Responsible for scanning original documents into the IP docket e-mail box on a daily basis. Ensuring accurate and timely completion of requests.
• Coordinating and participating in the distribution of daily and weekly individual dockets to attorneys, paralegals and assistants, maintaining and staying abreast of rule and procedural changes and performs follow up inquiries with timekeepers to ensure appropriate conclusions.
• Tracking critical dates and related details and delivers information to attorneys and staff.
• Preparing customized reports, maintains firm’s docket in an up-to-date manner to ensure that filing dates are not overlooked.
• Identifying, recommending and documenting changes to IP docket policies, procedures, forms, etc. to provide better service and support to timekeepers.
• Coordinating day-to-day activities of the patent docket teams.
• Overall maintenance and management of the IP docketing software (CPI), working with CPI technicians as needed.

 

Requires minimum of two years of prior patent experience, preferably in a patent docket environment. Strong familiarity with the patent docketing practices, both U.S. and foreign is required. Should be energetic, self-starter with strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities. Must be able to work as a member of a larger legal team, as well as independently manage a variety of tasks. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential. Bachelor degree and/or paralegal certificate preferred.
Law firm experience preferred.
Occasional overtime may be necessary.

IP Paralegal

Ideal candidate will have prior applicable patent prosecution experience for PL position. 

Other qualifications for PL include, but not limited to:

  • Four year degree and PL training/certificate. Applicable experience may be substituted for formal education if 2 year degree and paralegal certificate.
  • Relevant PATENT prosecution experience in a professional environment which includes progressive responsibility in managing patent matters on the prosecution side is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of US and PCT patent rules and procedure highly desirable. PL will assist in filing of U.S. and PCT patent applications.
  • PL will have ability to draft correspondence to clients regarding status of applications and patents, and reporting Office Actions. Correspond with foreign associates; oversee payment of foreign associates’ invoices. Assist in preparing claim amendments.
  • Ability to construct timelines of events, review file history, extract critical data and reconstruct portfolio.
  • Law firm IP experience preferred. Occasional overtime work may be necessary. Other duties as assigned may include planning, directing and reviewing of the work assigned to other support staff, as well as special projects designated by associates/partners.
